Why do you recommend this person? (be concise & descriptive)
Susan has always held the bar high and she keeps raising it because of her ability to excel at anything her heart is truly in. She elevates others also.
What exactly did they do or say; in what way did they act or what did they innovate? (be concise & descriptive)
Susan translates her nursing skills and philosophy into business practice. As businesswoman she is innovative. She holds the space for her employees to actualize in their job and for business partnerships and practices to be based upon integrity. In one of the early companies that she lead, as President and CEO, she maintained an open door to her employees. She introduced self care into her office practices. By facilitating the personal interest of an employee to practice massage therapy, she provided stress reduction benefits to her staff each Friday. She introduced a holistic component to their managed care modules consulting me as a Holistic Nurse Consultant. Her company grew in success and when she sold it, the rewards and love were bountiful; as she had given.
How did this impact you, their facility, their own life - what was the measure of success? (be concise & descriptive)
I was inspired by her ability to be a nurse and become successful in business while maintaining her values and open heart.
What words of recognition, praise or gratitude do you want to say to them. (be concise & descriptive)
Susan, your being is essentially "ascential". You elevate nursing, leadership, people, business practice and businesses. People and their lives improve from interacting and working with you.

Why do you recommend this person? (be concise & descriptive)
Barbara Karnes, RN exemplifies courage, insight and generosity as a nurse researcher, end of life pioneer, nurse author and an insightful educator. She prepared the way for learning about a most intimate time in life; for when the world and her colleagues would become ready to learn. Barbaracontinues to be a prominent national educator on end of life issues.
What exactly did they do or say; in what way did they act or what did they innovate? (be concise & descriptive)
A family member received Barbara's book, "Gone from my Sight" from his Hospice nurse. He was an intelligent and creative man, but did not know what to expect with dying. It was difficult for him to ask. This simple, honest, profoundly insightful book was his guide. He obtained numerous copies and handed them to his family and friends saying, "This explains what is going to happen to me!"
How did this impact you, their facility, their own life - what was the measure of success? (be concise & descriptive)
Barbara's "Gone From My Sight" reduced the unknown and comforted an independent thinking, creative and intelligent man who, realized for maybe the first time, that he did not have the knowledge, experience or ability to build a remedy for the venture that was before him. It comforted him and became a guide for the family too. It was a communication tool, providing a common language and assessment for something that was difficult to find words for and had no instruction book. Since then I have gifted this and here other books to many people.
What words of recognition, praise or gratitude do you want to say to them. (be concise & descriptive)
Dear Barbara,I am inspired by your ability to grow through the stages of your career toward your calling. Early on at the bedside of your brothers and sisters in transition, I see your wonder as objective inquiry and observation that qualifies as research. You validated the experiences and came to conclusions perhaps better than any funded study. You saw a need and provided something that was not available. Your education, presentations, books and videos are the lamp light of the wisdom from those you comforted and companioned. May others who are nurses be inspired by you to follow their calling. Thank you deeply for your soulful work as a person and nurse; your innovation as a researcher, educator, author and leader.I dedicated this quote to you, from Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”Thank you for leaving a trail!Barbara Young RN

The Story of Nurses Moving Forward

Sparked by a conversation between a diversely seasoned nurse and a nursing student that lead to more exciting chatter with other nursing students and colleagues. Then the realization that many nurses were asking the same questions:

                                      • ~ Why aren’t there any jobs?
                                      • ~ What’s happening in nursing?
                                      • ~ What can I do if I can’t get two (recent) years med-surg experience first?
                                      • ~ Not working as a nurse for 5 years negates my prior 15 active years, so I am not a nurse any more?
                                      • ~ Don’t we need more nurses?

The exploration and research that followed, lead to The Big Question!

“WHAT’S GOING ON IN NURSING & WHY DON”T NURSES KNOW?“
