Is Seeing Believing?
Nurse observation is a privilege and a skill. It has been proven that the observer can influence an experiment with their own expectations. Do nurses expect the best for the people in their care? Do they bet on the worse if they feel that is what will likely happen. Is nurse observation objective?
The gold standard of research is the double blind study. This is a study in which neither the researcher or the participant knows what variable they are interacting with in the study.
Often times in pharmaceutical research, the proposed new medicine or treatment is tested against a placebo.
Curious that a placebo is the measure of effectiveness. In Allopathic Medicine, the placebo is merely accounted for by the power of belief. Science is proving otherwise.
Nurse observation and research can forge the leading edge on this and countless other topics, issues and occurrences. Nurses observe people in a myriad of situations. They witness a diversity of people and culture, beliefs, attitudes, philosophies and responses.

Some patients take on a role of filling-all-the-other-people in on the workings, where’s and why fors of the system. Which nurse is which and what time something occurs, how to get extra graham crackers in the evening…whatever. They act like the expert and go to person. -JB

I have seen a huge difference in the way people cope. Some people are angry and defensive. Some are totally involved and want to know everything about their care and treatment. Some people want to leave it totally up to the doctor and would rather not know much at all. Some people are happy and go on living their lives. While others seem withdrawn, depressed, sleep and others in the family may even do all the talking for them. -AS

Some people cruise through their therapy like it is nothing. It is an appointment, they show up and get it done and they go on about their life. For others, life stops. -PM

What is it that cancer is so prevalent? 10’s of millions of dollars are spent on research…to “cure”. Huge expensive cancer centers are built to treat it.. Is there any research being done on prevention? -AN
