Have your heard of or seen the documentary film, The American Nurse? It is about extraordinary people who are nurses, and has it’s own extraordinary story. It truly exemplifies how we can be inspired by experiences and how an idea can become a reality that inspires others.
Carolyn Jones, also a photographer and film maker, was asked by Frasenius Kabi to collaborate on a photo-journalistic study for a book celebrating American nurses. She was inspired to participate largely because of her own experience of nurses during her own chemotherapy treatments.
Carolyn so graciously conveys that a nurse “cares so deeply for their patient” and they are “so deeply invested in making that life better.”
They traveled to across the states from New York to Florida to California and to hospitals and clinics in between. They interviewed nurses and photographed them in action and in their lives.
Carolyn sees nursing as “a lens to see the every day issues we deal with in our everyday life.” Her approach is with wonder. Asking, “What do they know that I don’t know?” “What does someone who’s working with people going thru all these different things at different stages in their lives…learn…about humanity… and how we react…what can I learn from that?”
